[Having taken a post at the bar with a tidy cup of tea, Rosamund fishes out the "radio" from her pack and sets to studying it once again. By now she's worked out that it makes music (the likes of which she's never imagined), but with all the wonders it works she can't help thinking there may be something more to the little red box.
Discreetly as possible, she presses a few buttons, turns a dial.
🎶I WANT SOOOOMETHIN' EEEEELSE...TO GET ME THROUGH THIS SEMI-CHARMED KINDA-LIFE! BAY-BY, BAY-BY—
She gasps and fumbles the thing, losing it to the other side of the bar.]
[ well. baiken has been drinking for what feels like 24 hours straight, so the sudden loud noise is an unwelcome interruption. as it doesn't resolve itself in the matter of one second, she gets up, huffily striding over to growl at rosamund: ]
You. Woman. Turn off your noise machine before I do it for you.
well her massive thighs are good for something, as she hops over the bar no problem and gets all up in rosamund's space. ]
Outta my way. [ she is going to push the poor woman with her foot if she doesn't move it, thorns be damned (if. they are still there. i am not canon familiar). by using the shealth of her katana, she can retrieve the terrible noise box from under the counter, and uh
punt that thing as far as it'll go. she has a pretty dramatic kick. i am sorry. ]
[Such shock on her face. Which soon drips away to a furrowed brow, an open gape of indignity. She doesn't think anyone's ever taken such a tone with her before. Who is this woman?]
I made a simple mistake. And for that you tried to kick me, and then you destroyed one of my things? [She shakes her head, beyond incredulous.] I don't even know who you are.
[Okay getting the sense that this may be an unstoppable force and immovable object situation. Rosamund inhales thinly and tries again.]
Look, I don't have things like that where I come from. Actually, none of this is familiar to me. I just wanted a closer look and a nice cup of tea. I'm very sorry it disturbed you.
[ baiken is not a person who does much pondering or consideration, nor is she very eloquent. the words land, and it does seem to take a little aggression out of her voice but... only a little. ]
Not to places like these. [She purses her lips.] Ships are supposed to be made of wood and sail in water. I truly don't now how we're moving through anything right now.
[This is probably a terrible idea, but. Well. Everyone came out covered in blood. It's only right that everyone gets looked after, no matter what condition they come out in or how surly the disposition.
Rosamund tracks down Baiken later. It takes time to find her, but she still clutches the towels, the water bottle, and armful of omega mart snacks close. She'd have brought liquor if the damn place would let her have any, she's sure that would broker a better peace than this junk.]
[ she's chillin, out and away from everyone else, smoking her kiseru. she's had time to shower and change, so she's back to her usual kimono getup. hair still wild af though there's no fixing that. but, without her cyoa outfit, the only visible mark of her adventure is the dark bruise on her face. ]
[She's pleased to see her so calm, actually. Charles told her she might be difficult to get any kind of treatment for, and Rosamund doubts she'd get her there either by the carrot or the stick. Especially not the stick.
It's better to just gauge any hidden damage first. Then proceed with what to do.
For now she takes a seat at her side, keeping a respectful distance.]
I got some snacks too, in case you're hungry. I see you've already cleaned up.

[Her eyes flick at once to the arm. Curious. Very curious.
But also not wanting to make herself so obvious, Rosamund takes a bag of chips and a bag of chocolate cookies and sets them both at the other woman's side. Sweet or salty, both can be hers.]
Just because things could be worse doesn't mean they can't be better.
baiken eyes the sweets impassively, then retreives her kiseru once again. i guess this is the worst fitting obi in the world so she can produce a lighter and re.. light it... look i'm an ignorant rper i don't know how smoking pipes work. ]
Had to go through hell to get some kinda Bough. Can't speak on the other three, but Throné and Ichiban struggled with it. [ this is not said in a disparaging matter, just matter-of-fact. it's hard! hell sucks!!!! ]
You're better off makin' sure they're okay than someone like me.
[i'd believe anything you told me tbh she should smoke as much as she wants.]
Oh, yes. Well, lots of people are helping them. Everyone rushed in all at once, so. I thought I'd look for you.
[It feels too weird to sit here without doing something, especially once the pipe comes out again. Last time Lucien lent her a cigarette she'd nearly choked to death so that's probably not on the table. But she still has many snacks in her lap! One couldn't hurt.
Delicately she peels a corner off a bag of gummies and takes a wee red bear for herself.]
Bough as in a tree branch? Was it sacred, or magic of some kind?
[ girl stop being so weird about your snacks. baiken pushes the bears closer. take the damn bears. ]
Somethin' like that. Funny thing is, no one actually told us. Then when we got to it, touching it made some giant building with a leg appear. So we got into that car and got brought back.
Fighting is all about knowing yourself. [ a pause to tag a drag. ]
We weren't gonna win against that thing, and the car was faster anyway. Then I'm sure you saw us get thrown into the theater. Or heard about it, anyway.
[This is perhaps the last person she'd expected to run into here. But also, maybe not so unexpected? Feels like drinking and smoking and gambling all run in the same family.]
Miss Baiken! Hello!
[Okay there was a rough run-in after Throné kissed her that one time but before that! They'd spoken rather civilly. There is hope!]
That's pretty much it. [ she gestures to the machine. it's pachislot style. ] hit the level to spin the reels, then hit the button underneath 'em to make them stop. You wanna match three.
[ she demonstrates! it lights up and makes a bunch of noise! wow! except she just hits the buttons three in a row to stop the reels at random, which of course produces a random result that isn't a winner. bummer. ]
WEEK 0: First Sunday
Discreetly as possible, she presses a few buttons, turns a dial.

Shoot!

You. Woman. Turn off your noise machine before I do it for you.

[Desperately crawling over the bar, where did it fall to? This is so embarrassing, help help help
She peers over the other side. To her horror it's slid beneath the other counter.]
Just a moment, I promise!
[I'M NOT LISTENIN' WHEN YOU SAAAY

What have you — Why?!
That wasn't necessary at all!

Your mistake doesn't affect just you. Better that thing [ the long gone radio ] than you causing a real problem when the stakes matter.

Not to places like these. [She purses her lips.] Ships are supposed to be made of wood and sail in water. I truly don't now how we're moving through anything right now.

There's ships that sail in the sky now, too. This isn't the only one.
WEEK 2: Thursday

Ms. Baiken?

[Haha this is so awkward already. Nonetheless she approaches, holding out the water bottle first.]
I guess you dodged the worst of it, huh?
no subject
she taps the ash out of the pipe and sticks it in her obi so she can take the water bottle. ]
If it counts for something, then sure.

But I'm fine. I've had worse.

Just because things could be worse doesn't mean they can't be better.
What happened in there?

[ some... how... ]
no subject
A giant building with a leg?
[Okay. Um. Very far-fetched but not totally out of the question...]
It wasn't a sort of hut with chicken legs, was it?
[If anyone could make it here out of sheer will power and spite, only to torment whoever they found? It would be the Baba Yaga.]
no subject
no subject
[Okay different walking building, nevermind. No saviour in the guise of a mercurial hag today.]
And you were able to escape alive? That's incredible. Really, I have a friend who's fought giants before, it's no easy feat.
no subject
We weren't gonna win against that thing, and the car was faster anyway. Then I'm sure you saw us get thrown into the theater. Or heard about it, anyway.
no subject
Is that what hurt Throné and Ichiban? Or was there something else you had to fight?
[She doubts that the woman is secretly nursing a wounded arm from just running away.]
no subject
That wasn't the only thing. There was a lot of fighting going on at the end, but I wasn't watchin' them then.
WEEK 4: Monday
Miss Baiken! Hello!
[Okay there was a rough run-in after Throné kissed her that one time but before that! They'd spoken rather civilly. There is hope!]
Looking to win big?
no subject
Hah. My luck isn't that good. But this isn't my money anyway.
no subject
[Actually though... Hiding her overeagerness]
In that case, mind if I join you?
no subject
[ it's just gambling, how much of a nuisance can rosamund be?? ]
no subject
[She flashes her a smile as she sweeps her skirts beneath her and takes a seat at the neighbouring machine.]
Mind showing me how it's done? I gather you press some of these buttons here...
no subject
[ she demonstrates! it lights up and makes a bunch of noise! wow! except she just hits the buttons three in a row to stop the reels at random, which of course produces a random result that isn't a winner. bummer. ]
no subject
[She watches her go, dazzled by the blinking lights.]
Okay, I'll try. [Boots up her own machine, mimicking the motions — only two match.] Oh, damn.
[AGAIN.]
I can see why this is so invigorating? [AGAIN.] I almost had it there.
no subject
Maybe after a couple more hours and several loans you'll win big.
